Hi! I’m Annelise, Shasta Scout’s founder and lead reporter.

We’re proud to be an independent, non-profit, civic news media organization, committed to Shasta County’s diverse and investigative stories.

Our nimble structure means we can keep costs relatively low, allowing us to run hard on a lean budget and put every dollar where it’s most needed.  As we connect with grant organizations and reach out to businesses for sponsorship, we also deeply need the support of readers like you.

Our commitment to  in-depth and inclusive local news coverage represents a change in Shasta County’s status quo.  Our grass-roots approach to news is centered in the belief that access to information empowers people to build a stronger, safer democracy.

As we work to expand our coverage, we’re hoping to find 300 people who will give $5 or $10 a month to allow us to begin to regularly pay contributing writers who can cover the topics our community most needs to hear about. There are so many important stories waiting to be told.

Will my contribution be considered a charitable donation for tax purposes?

Yes, your payment is tax-deductible.

Is your website secure?

All payments are processed through Stripe. Stripe is a PCI Service Provider Level 1 which is the highest grade of payment processing security. All credit card information is encrypted, sent directly to Stripe and is never sent to our website server. This means that we are PCI compliant and any breach of our website won’t result in stolen credit card information. Learn more here.

I already contribute. How do I cancel my recurring donation?

If you would like to cancel your recurring donation, please log into the website here. Once logged in, click the “Recurring Donations” button, then select “Cancel”. I already contribute. How can I update my credit card?

You can update your credit card by logging into the website here. Once logged in, click the “Recurring Donations” button, then select “Update.” You will be asked to enter new credit card information.
