Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration

The Shasta Beloved Community, in collaboration with community partners, invites the public to
celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy during the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of
Service Celebration on Monday, January 19, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This year’s event will
take place at Sequoia Middle School, located at 1805 Sequoia Street in Redding.
This year’s theme, “Mission Possible: Building Community, Uniting a Nation the Nonviolent Way.”
This theme is more than a banner; it’s a blueprint for action. It guides our programming, fuels our
outreach, and anchors our commitment to building the Beloved Community; a world where injustice
ends, violence is replaced by compassion, and love becomes the prevailing force. It calls for
reflection, education, and action toward creating positive change in our communities. The event will
feature a variety of activities, performances, and opportunities for all ages to participate in honoring
Dr. King’s legacy.
Highlights of the 2026 celebration will include:
• Prayer Circle/March to Sequoia | 10am. Starts at the Shasta County Superior Courthouse –
1500 Court Street, Redding, Ca. A shuttle will be available at 9:20am at Sequoia Middle School
for transportation to the Courthouse before the Prayer Circle and March begins.
* Information Booths 10:45am- -2:00pm
• MLK Celebration Bell Ringing Ceremony at Sequoia Middle School at 10:45
* Program & Performances 11:30am
• Lunch provided by the Asphalt Cowboys & 12:30 to 2:00pm
This event will be hosted rain or shine and is open to all community members. Attendees are
encouraged to come together in solidarity as they participate in educational and service-oriented
activities designed to deepen their understanding of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision and its
application in today’s society.
