Moe Shimizu: Intern

I am a rising senior at Yale University studying cultural anthropology, and am joining Shasta Scout as a summer reporting intern through the Nonprofit Newsroom Internship Program. I got my footing in journalism through creative writing and long-form magazine reporting, and am drawn to feature reporting that centers lived experience. 

I’m originally from Tokyo, Japan, and have previously reported on local issues in Japan including declining rural governments and student activism. At Shasta Scout, I am interested in covering local politics, public decision-making, and the histories of racial minority communities in Shasta County. I’m most fascinated by stories that ask how people with different backgrounds and political views can continue to coexist within a community.
