Congressman Doug LaMalfa will hold town hall in Red Bluff today, August 11

From 5:30–7:30 in the Red Bluff Community Center, the U.S. representative for California District 1 will meet with constituents.

Republican Congressman Doug LaMalfa will be visiting Red Bluff tonight to address voters at  a local community center.

LaMalfa’s constituents currently include residents of Shasta, Tehama, Butte, Sutter, Colusa, Glenn, Siskiyou, Lassen, and Modoc counties. That could change. California is considering a redistricting map that Governor Gavin Newsom said he wants presented to voters in a special election this November for their approval. If the new plan goes into effect, five Republican congress members could lose their seats on Capitol Hill – including LaMalfa.

Like the vast majority of his Republican colleagues, LaMalfa voted in favor of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” and its included cuts to Medicaid, something that’s likely to impact rural hospitals in his district, which are already few and far between. Aside from the bill, the North State has also seen recent changes in federal spending on rural schools and forest conservation policy

Hours ahead of his planned appearance tonight in Red Bluff, LaMalfa held a similar town hall this morning in Chico, a university town about 50 miles southeast of Red Bluff.

Video of the event shows he was well received by some but pilloried by the majority of attendees who jeered, booed, and loudly expressed their discontent for his support for recent tariffs, cuts to healthcare, and the U.S–funded Israeli assault on Gaza.

LaMalfa was also probed about local issues such as sediment removal from water and funding to public education.

  1. Maybe this “opinion outfit,“ would like to employ somebody from the conservative site as well. Nevin is incapable of reporting about anything without the lens of liberalism! This type of reporting does absolutely nothing but fire up an extreme minority in Redding California.

  2. How many times has he been voted in? He hasn’t changed. People voted for this. Maybe vote better next time.

  3. Regarding the prior offering, Green Energy is Not “the future hope for the world”. If you want to believe that CO2 production is the primary cause of “Global Warming/ Climate Change”, you had better look to Nuclear Energy, especially Small Nuclear Reactors or Hydraulic Power.
The current California Government Legislators and the Governor are destroying Dams, promoting Wind Turbines that kill Large and Small Endangered Birds, and filling our Landfills with Indestructible Solar Waste.

    • Thank you for replying to my post. It takes decades to build and put into service nuclear reactors and they are vastly more expensive than solar and even wind power for the energy produced. We need to act right now, and solar is the best resource we have for cheap and rapid deployment. Solar waste? What about nuclear waste? Every energy source has a downside, but solar is the least harmful and fossil fuels are the worst by far. Oil, gas, and coal are expensive, technologically obsolete, and non-renewable and will have a very limited role in the future energy system.
We need more energy, and it should be a blend of solar, wind, hydro, limited nuclear. There are several greenhouse “gases” that play a role in climate change, and CO2 is the most prominent factor. It is also something that we have control over if we wish to exercise it.

  4. I just hope this one (and the next if he didn’t chicken out) get put online somewhere, it’ll be nice to hear him get screamed stupid, by his republican constituents, when he probably thought he would safe from it

  5. That reception fell just short people yelling, “Git a rope!” But not by much.

    • Esteban: That’s concerning. Threats to a public official are a crime.

      • But it seemed to be OK when the Jan 06th traitors did it!

  6. Tariffs, the Israel assault on Gaza, and the severe cuts to healthcare are certainly very important issues. However, 20 years from now, no one will be talking about the effect of these issues of today. They will be talking about the assault on the effort to combat climate change. That will be the lasting legacy of Trump, LaMalfa, and the rest of the Republican party. The United States is powerful enough to have a major effect on the progression of climate change, but despite this, the administration, with the support of congressman LaMalfa, is not just stopping progress but trying to force us to go backward. Green energy is the future hope for the world. Existing technology can combat climate change. Subsidizing and encouraging fossil fuel energy at the expense of modern solar and wind development is not only environmentally disastrous, but it is economically insane. Solar energy development is now, faster, more efficient, and significantly cheaper than fossil fuel energy, and the rest of the world knows that.
