Root Fire near Castle Crags State Park Prompts Evacuations in Shasta County

The fire, which started Labor Day afternoon, is already 300 acres. It’s prompted evacuation orders in Shasta County and warnings in Siskiyou.

Update 8:42 a.m. – Evacuation order still in place for CST-1070-B in Shasta County. In Siskiyou County, evacuation warnings effective in SIS-6200, SIS-6203 and SIS-630.


A vegetation fire that started around 12:30 p.m. this afternoon, September 1, near Castle Crags State Park, has prompted evacuations in Shasta County.

The fire has quickly grown to 300 acres. It’s located 3 miles west of Castella close to the intersection of Forest Road 25 and Castle Creek Road. The cause is still being investigated.

Shasta’s zone CST- 1070-B is under evacuation order, meaning community members in this zone should leave now. Find your zone here. Additionally, three zones in Siskiyou County are also under evacuation orders. They include SIS-6200, SIS-6203 and SIS-6301.
