Update: On Feb. 20, Shasta officials released additional information on when community members might have been exposed to measles at Redding Christian School. We’ve added those dates below.

In a recent press release, Shasta County Health and Human Services Agencyโ€™s Public Health Branch announced the confirmation of a ninth measles case in Shasta County, stemming from an outbreak that was first identified on Jan. 30.

In an effort to prevent the further spread of measles, Shastaโ€™s public health team has released an initial list of possible sites where community members might have been exposed to measles from the newest case, and will announce additions to the list by press release as they emerge. Current known locations of possible exposure include:

  • Redding Christian School, 21945 Old 44 Dr., Palo Cedro, Feb. 11, 12 and 13, from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
  • Redding Christian School chapel service for elementary school students and their families, 21945 Old 44 Dr., Palo Cedro, Feb. 12, from 8 to 11 a.m.
  • A gym basketball game at the former CrossPointe Community Church, 2960 Hartnell Ave., Redding on Feb. 14, from 2 to 5 p.m.
  • Prestige Urgent Care, 3689 Eureka Way, Redding, on Feb. 16, from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

The county is asking anyone who was present at these locations or events during the times indicated to contact the Shasta County Measles Information Line at (530) 638-5580, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday, and speak with county health staff.

Meanwhile, Shasta County Health Officer Dr. James Mu is urging anyone experiencing symptoms of the measles โ€” which include a rash starting in the facial area and possibly spreading to the body, often preceded by a high fever, runny nose, and coughing โ€” to contact a medical provider immediately to get tested. Rather than going to a public health clinic, ER, or doctors office, individuals should call ahead to be sure they can be examined in a way that doesnโ€™t place others at risk.

Mu, along with the California Department of Public Health, is also encouraging the public to ensure their MMR vaccinations are up to date for best protection. Community members can check their vaccination status here.
