Advance Redding receives grant from city, long-term fate of Civic Auditorium still unknown

The Redding council voted to grant the nonprofit Advance Redding approximately $675,000 to continue operating the Civic Auditorium. The council could restructure Advance Redding’s contract to ensure the continued operation of the auditorium now that Bethel Church is no longer leasing the space.

Controversial Redding ‘lift assist’ fee repealed

A $489 first responder fee that was being charged to community members for assistance in “non-life threatening situations” drew public outcry earlier this month. On Tuesday, the Redding City Council voted to repeal the fee and refund those previously charged.

Changes Ahead for NorCal Continuum of Care

After Shasta County stepped away as lead agency for the NorCal Continuum of Care in 2023, the City of Redding took on the responsibility. Now that the city is also stepping down, leadership for the seven-county entity will review two proposals from community nonprofits to take over the lead administrative role.

Legal Action will not Immediately Halt Chriss Street’s Contract with Shasta County for Healthcare Consulting  

During a June 5 hearing, a Shasta County judge denied plaintiff Jeff Gorder’s request for a temporary restraining order that would have halted Shasta County’s contract with healthcare consultant Chriss Street, pending further court hearings.

Coyotes: Fair game or in need of protection?

Coyotes are plentiful across Northern California, and current regulations allow for the hunting and killing of coyotes with few restrictions. When the California Fish and Game Commission recommended giving coyotes more protection, the proposal drew outcry.

Until Dec. 31, all donations will be doubled, and new donations will be matched 12x.
