Nadia Lathan covers California politics with a focus on San Diego in partnership with Voice of San Diego.

Before CalMatters, she covered all things Texas for The Associated Press as a Report for America corps member in Austin. At AP, she reported on the rightward shift in South Texas during the 2024 elections and the bitter U.S. Senate primary campaigns between Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Sen. John Cornyn. She traversed the state to cover former Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign rally in Houston and the deadly Hill Country floods. Just before moving to Sacramento, she followed Republican lawmakers redistrict the state’s congressional maps to give the GOP more winnable seats ahead of the 2026 elections.
