An announcement has been released about the upcoming memorial service for former Congressman Doug LaMalfa, who died unexpectedly earlier this month.

The event will be held at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico on Jan. 24 at 12 p.m. Doors will open two hours earlier, at 10 a.m., with access to parking beginning at 9:30. Due to the expected size of the crowd and the need for security screenings, attendees are encouraged to arrive early.

Tickets are required for entry and can be obtained by registering online. No weapons of any kinds, sticks, large bags or signs will be allowed on site, the announcement indicates.

LaMalfa was the congressman for much of the North State for more than a decade. He had already begun his campaign for reelection in 2026 when he died Jan. 6 during emergency surgery, according to information shared by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.

In lieu of flowers, his family is asking the community to consider donating to the Oroville Resource Center and Rescue Mission, which works to end homelessness.
