Many local election results remain much too close to call as Shasta County election workers continue to count ballots.

11.18.24 11:30 am: We have updated this story to correct the currently reported estimated number of ballots cast across Shasta County and to share information about the number of B cards that remain unprocessed.

On Friday, November 15, around 7 pm, the Shasta County Elections Office released new vote totals from ballots processed so far. Those number show about 73,000 of an estimated 89,000 ballots cast across Shasta County this election have been counted.

Importantly, the vote totals reference only how many A Cards, or the first page of each ballot, have been counted. On Saturday, November 16, the Shasta County Elections Office released it’s fifth unprocessed ballot report for this election. That report shows that while only about 11,000 A cards remain to be counted, an additional 22,000 B cards also remain to be counted.

That means that for races included on the A card, or first page of the ballot this election, the majority of votes have been counted, but for races that appeared on the B card, or second page of the ballot, only about two-thirds of the votes have been counted.

The Shasta County Elections Office released its fifth unprocessed ballot report on Saturday, November 16.

As the Elections Office makes steady progress with counting, some local races are becoming more certain – but many continue to be far too close to call. All results are still preliminary.

Shasta County Registrar of Voters Tom Toller has said he believes most votes will be counted by November 21 or 22. Toller must certify the results of the election on or before December 5 in order to meet the state deadline.

The next vote count update is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, November 19, around 7 pm.
