After three years of job training and paychecks, Shasta County resident Travis Gregorio was given only three days notice that he would no longer receive services through the County’s Opportunity Center. Gregorio, who has significant mental health disabilities, now faces an uncertain future.
The union that represents Shasta County’s long-term care workers will continue negotiations with county supervisors on Tuesday. Union representatives say investing in IHSS workers financially will have a positive effect on Shasta County’s economy.
While some farm workers prefer to stay in the shadows, Casia says, she hopes the Cesar Chavez Day donations help them to feel supported and welcomed in the community.
Until Dec. 31, all donations will be doubled, and new donations will be matched 12x.
