The Redding council voted to grant the nonprofit Advance Redding approximately $675,000 to continue operating the Civic Auditorium. The council could restructure Advance Redding’s contract to ensure the continued operation of the auditorium now that Bethel Church is no longer leasing the space.
Supervisors signed a lease with the City of Redding to build a day facility for alternative custody this week. Their concern that Redding won't sign its end of the lease as quickly as they hope, prompted a majority of supervisors to withhold routine approval to run a special election for the city. Supervisors hope to create enough pressure to force quick movement on a land deal.
A $489 first responder fee that was being charged to community members for assistance in “non-life threatening situations” drew public outcry earlier this month. On Tuesday, the Redding City Council voted to repeal the fee and refund those previously charged.
After receiving an anonymous tip, Shasta Scout conducted an investigation into an ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations sub-field office that Redding officials say they know little about. Records requests reveal the facility has been operating for years and has a contract on file with the Redding Police.
The program offered by the Redding Area Bus Authority was discontinued on July 31. It was funded by a regional Agency on Aging that works to support seniors in parts of the North State.
The special election will be held on Nov. 4. If passed, Redding’s sales tax will increase by 1%.

Fifty-seven year old Steven King is facing attempted murder and other felony charges for shooting a man who approached his trailer home in April. During a preliminary hearing in late July, a Shasta County judge said the evidence provided so far is enough to move towards a trial with current charges intact.
The initiative would raise Redding’s sales tax by 1% if passed by voters, bringing an additional $30 million into the city annually. The extra money would help enhance public safety and pay for other projects, including improvements to the Redding Sports Park and Redding Rodeo Grounds.
An update to how Redding protects trees was started in early 2021. City staff say the process should finally be complete by the end of 2025.
