“No Kings” Protest Numbers Swell to More than 1,600 in Shasta
Shortly after President Donald Trump’s January 2025 inauguration, 400 people showed up to a Redding protest. Today, months into his second presidency, four times as many attended.

Community members danced, sang, played music and instruments, brought their children, walked their dogs and occasionally shouted out slogans during a “No Kings” protest in Redding that began at 9 am on June 14. The event was one of more than 2,000 similar protests across the nation today as President Trump celebrated the Army’s 250th birthday and his own, with a military parade in Washington, D.C.
At least 1,600 people attended the event which was held in front of the Redding City Hall. Many carried signs expressing their disapproval for President Donald Trump’s policies including immigration raids that have sparked protests across American cities over the last week. Opposition to Trump included concerns about his policies on the environment, veteran services, healthcare services, education, tariffs, refugees and much more.
Numbers at Redding protests have continued to increase over recent months, swelling from 400 during events in mid-February and early March to 1,000 in April and closer to 2,000 today.
Chuck Keller was one of several veterans who attended today’s protest. He showed Shasta Scout a picture of himself in 1968 during a deployment in Danang, Vietnam. Keller said he was twenty-one at the time and served as a Navy Corpsman, or medic.
Calling the state of affairs under Trump’s leadership, “tragic” and decrying what he called an active descent into fascism, Keller said he can’t believe what he sees happening in America today.
“I had no idea how many of my neighbors were racist”, Keller said, “until Trump.”
A few counter-protesters also showed up at the event, cruising repeatedly in front of the assembled crowd in pick-up trucks with Trump flags waving from the back. Danny Ide, one of the drivers of the vehicles, said he came to express his opinion, explaining that he believes Trump is doing a good job and time will help Americans understand how positive his policies really are.

Ide also reported the event’s only significant negative incident saying an elderly man of “about ninety and probably eight-five pounds” approached his vehicle while he waited at a stop light in front of the crowd. The man allegedly pulled Ide’s Trump flag from its holder, bent the pole, ripped the flag away from it and tossed the items in the truck bed.
Ide briefly stopped traffic while he reported the incident to the Redding Police Department. Shasta Scout did not witness the initial event but several protesters who did, expressed their dismay shortly after. One said it was Ide’s right as an American to “agitate” and it’s important that protesters follow the law and stay safe by not engaging with counter-protest.
“I feel like you shouldn’t leave your designated spot on the curb”, community member Rebecca Goheen said. “Just stay here to do what we do peacefully. It doesn’t take much to cause a problem. Right now things are like a match just waiting to be lit.”

I’m glad to see such a big turnout in Redding. I, unfortunately, couldn’t make it, but it pleases me to know that so many others in the area are resisting this wannabe dictator and his fascistic immigration policies. As his completely illogical economic plans fail and people are kicked off Medicaid and Medicare, more people will suffer and understand how little Trump cares for anyone who isn’t him. The blatant corruption is getting worse, but more people are becoming aware of it every day, and he won’t be able to continue his unconstitutional orders for long, especially as many are getting overturned in court.
Headlines should read:
“Local town agitators forget the king was gone September 3, 1781”
Or
“Local town agitators disrespect the army celebration of July 14, 1775”
The story could have went on there were a few hundred Trump haters that forgot Trump was elected November 3, 2024.
The rest of the other agitators we’re just having a good time, a good party and getting there 15 minutes of fame.
Go ICE, go Border patrol, go Homeland security, go Election security, go army, and go Freedom!

We, the people, will not willingly accept the rule of a convicted adjudicated rapist, a 34-count felon criminal fraud, a documented 30,700 and counting liar, who is an open racist, who is violating the posse comitatus act, and suspend the writ of habeas corpus, who has tried to revoke the citizenship of American Born Children, who has lost or suspended until appealed, over 187 court case just since January 23, 2025, who to this day snivels the long-debunked lie that the 2020 election “was rigged and stolen,” who hires nazi sympathizers and Holocaust deniers in positions for his administration, who cuts health services for our Vets, who cuts food for working families, school kids and even senior citizens, who is openly trying to destroy our environment and future of our children, and who has tried to take our Representative Democracy away from us…
You see, Happy, this is the United States of America. We fought against white nationalists, separatists, white supremacists, and fought the Nazis in WWII. And guess what? We won those wars against fascism. We won and won’t go back. And really, that should make you VERY HAPPY, right?

The Quinnipiac University poll, published on June 11, found that 38% of respondents approved of trump’s job performance, while 54% disapproved. This marks the first time a Quinnipiac poll has shown trump’s (the oldest inaugurated president in history) rating below 40%. Over 2,100 events were held under the No Kings Day banner! The June 14th “No Kings” protests may have been the biggest day of demonstrations in American history.

You can register if you’re 17 years old and will be 18 years old by each election date…that’s November 4, 2025 for the ballot measure in Redding; and the June 2, 2026 Primary for all the county seats in Shasta County; especially County Clerk/ROV (hint).

It was so powerful and positive, felt very safe there and they gathered food donations for a local food bank. It was great to see democracy in action and all the love and support for people in our community that fight for programs like education and healthcare for those less fortunate. We need more people like this in the world

We do those things too! I volunteer every week and there was a food drive yesterday that gathered supplies for a foodbank
That’s a lie. I was there until the end and helped cleanup. Not one speck of trash was left behind. Also, it was very productive if you care about people who are hungry because it was also a food drive that collected enough food to fill the bed of a piclup.
And reportedly, over 300 pounds of food for a local pantry, about 10 from this family. But, MAGA has to lie and gaslight… Sad.

What a joyful and peaceful nonviolent gathering! While Crye, along with Jones, Corky, Kelstorm, and their cartel of tinfoil MAGA mad hatters want to make “Shasta County the reddest county in the state,” over 2000 local people of all ages, colors, and even political affiliations joined millions to peacefully and joyfully say NO to Trumpism!

Shasta county is deeply, I would say even violently, red. Krcr tv posted on FB about today’s Redding No Kings demonstration. The comments on the post were very disturbing. I would not feel safe protesting against Trump in this county. I’m glad I have an exit strategy. I can’t wait to move.
Don’t be afraid. Like most bullies, they’re all talk. They’re too lazy to get off the couch in big numbers, so one or two show up and we ignore them. They do say disturbing things in comments for sure, probably because their dear leader encourages them to think violent thoughts. We’re not afraid of them and we’re not backing down.
Proof that men’s hearts (all people) must be regenerated. Change is deeply needed. In time, it will happen. The years ahead are going to be obvious with God’s grace and mercy, more so than ever before.

HJA: I was about one minute away when the incident occurred, saw the vehicle stop in the street and spoke immediately afterwards to protesters on scene and shortly later to the alleged victim who showed me his vehicle and flag. Alleged property damage and/or violence at a protest is almost always newsworthy.

Annelise, yes, the truck driver, along with another trump truck, was cruising in and out of the gathering all day, but for the minimal incident, never out of the vehicle. Destruction of property or violence is not acceptable! However, MAGA would have us believe the peaceful, nonviolent, mostly joyous gathering of 2000 protesters was staged by a few outside agitators of violent antifa anarchists (remember the bus lie) looking to block traffic, create violence, and destruction.
In fact, 2000 Shasat County folks protested the lawlessness and purposefully created death, injury, cruelty, pain, chaos, and destruction of democratic civility by MAGA, trump, and his administration, just as you reported……… without any arrests, violence, or disruption of traffic, no rocks or firebombs, etc. It was a beautiful day. This incident was news worthy because at past events there have been many angry and hostile interactions but at this event, which was the largest yet, this single incident was the only friction in sight. Some people with angry faces drove by quickly and flipped people off but even the interactions between the people driving ‘Trump Trucks’ back and forth and the crowd were not angry interactions. Hopefully MAGA is losing steam with the threats of dominance and violence.
