🚨 Redding City Council – August 15, 2023

Significant items on the Redding City Council agenda this week included a discussion of whether the City would take on the Collaborative Applicant role for the NorCal CoC and consideration of the Community Engagement plan for the Riverfront Specific Plan update.

The city has agreed to take on an interim role as Collaborative Applicant for the NorCal CoC since Shasta County announced its withdrawal from the CoC effective August 21. Read more of Shasta Scout’s coverage of these events here. The item was initially on the consent calendar, meaning that it could be approved without discussion. Councilperson Julie Winter requested that it be moved off the consent calendar so that the council could discuss it further. Winter voiced concern saying that this really should be a County role considering Shasta County is the largest government body out of all of the CoC members. After a few more comments, the Council unanimously approved the interim role.

The Council also unanimously approved the Community Engagement Strategy for the Riverfront Specific Plan as proposed by staff, including forming a 15-member Community Coalition Group to inform the update to the Riverfront Specific Plan. City Manager Barry Tippin will select members of the group. He said that other members of the community will still be encouraged to participate in meetings and give input.
