Redding’s new city manager has officially begun his role for the city.

William S. Tarbox attended his first Redding City Council meeting in his capacity as city manager last week, according to a press release from the city today, and he’s been meeting with staff and touring city facilities during his transition into the role.

Tarbox was selected this past December following a months-long recruitment process. Prior to his current position as Redding city manager, he served as the city of Concord’s public works director. He’s also held positions with the city of Benicia and the city and county of San Francisco.

“This initial phase is about listening and learning,” Tarbox said of his onboarding process in the press release. “My commitment is to be clear in expectations, consistent in direction, and supportive of high performance. Together, we will continue providing the steady, professional, and solutions-oriented service the Redding community relies on.”

Tarbox will oversee Redding’s day-to-day operations and work closely with the city council, according to the release, to maintain long-term fiscal health, carry out policy direction and ensure high-quality public services.

Redding Mayor Mike Littau said in the press release that Tarbox’s experience and leadership style will benefit the city.

“We are excited to have Mr. Tarbox on board,” Littau said. “His focus on performance, transparency, and fiscal discipline aligns with the City Council’s priorities and the community’s expectations.”
