Shasta County Elections 2024: Here’s Who’s Running for Special Districts

Here’s an overview of who’s running for some of the most important seats across Shasta County. We’ll expand this coverage with more detail, soon.

Editor’s Note: We have listed candidates in the order they appear on the official candidate list and we’ve identified their occupations in the same way.

Anderson-Cottonwood Irrigation District

Anderson-Cottonwood Irrigation District has a five-member Board of Directors elected for four-year terms by registered voters in five geographic areas.

Director – Division 3

Dan Woolery, appointed incumbent, is running unopposed.

Director – Division 4

G. Ivar Amen, business owner and rancher, is running unopposed.


Burney Fire Protection District

The Burney Fire Protection District Board includes five board members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include retired sheriff captain Forrest Bartell and incumbent Roger Thomas Valinoti.


Burney Water District

The Burney Water District Board includes five board members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include incumbent Fred A. Ryness III and appointed incumbent David Barry.


Castella Fire Protection District

The Castella Fire Protection District Board of Directors includes five board members serving four-year terms. One seat is up for election this fall.

Lisa Hubbard, incumbent, is running unopposed.


Centerville Community Services District

The Centerville Community Services District Board of Directors includes five board members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include incumbent Eric Woodstrom and incumbent Walt Richison.


Clear Creek Community Services District

The Clear Creek Community Services District Board of Directors includes five board members serving four-year terms. Three seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include appointed incumbent Scott Alan McVay, appointed incumbent Pam Beaver, and appointed incumbent Logan Johnston.


Cottonwood Fire Protect District

The Cottonwood Fire Protection District Board of Directors includes five board members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include incumbent Stephen C. Brown and incumbent Lindsay Sundal.


Cottonwood Water District

The Cottonwood Water District Board includes five board members serving four-year terms. One two-year partial term seat and three full-term seats are up for election this fall.

Board Member – 2 Year Partial Term

Byron Lynn Peebles, retired school administrator, is running unopposed.

Board Member – Full Term

Candidates include incumbent Ron Spurgeon, incumbent Arthur W. Parham Jr, and incumbent Lewis Jay Presley.


Fall River Valley Community Services District

The Fall River Valley Community Service District Board of Directors includes five board members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Tamara Lopez, incumbent, is running unopposed.


Happy Valley Fire Protection District

The Happy Valley Fire Protection District includes five board members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include Earnest A. Bostick and incumbent Stephen L. Wogoman.


Igo-Ono Community Services District

The Igo-Ono Community Service District Board includes five board members serving four-year terms. Three seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include incumbent John P. Moore Jr., incumbent Alan Tucker, appointed incumbent Joshua Tucker, and retired federal employee Michael Spencer.


Mayors Memorial Hospital District

The Mayors Memorial Hospital District Board of Directors includes five board members serving four-year terms. Three seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include incumbent Jerry Abe Hathaway and appointed incumbent Jim Ferguson.


Millville Fire Protection District

The Millville Fire Protection District Board includes five board members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include appointed incumbent Anthony Earl Roberts and appointed incumbent Jess Rodriguez Jr.


Mountain Gate Community Services District

The Mountain Gate Community Service District Board of Directors includes five board members serving four-year terms. Three seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include incumbent Katie Mason, retired transportation director Michael Young, retired business owner Bruce Calantropio, Debra Mynatt, and doctor of chiropractic Kay Kobe.


Shasta Community Services District

The Shasta Community Service District Board of Directors includes five board members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include appointed incumbent Valerie Coon and project manager Chris Hunter.


Shasta Lake Fire Protection District

The Shasta Lake Fire Protection District Board includes five board members serving four-year terms. Three seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include appointed incumbent Steve Morgan, incumbent David Thompson, and incumbent Ann Morningstar.


Anderson Fire Protection District

The Anderson Fire Protection District Board includes five board members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Jeff Hogue, incumbent, is running unopposed.


Fall River Valley Fire Protection District

The Fall River Valley Fire Protection District Board includes five board members serving four-year terms. One two-year partial-term seat and three full-term seats are up for election this fall.

Board Member – 2-Year Partial Term

Kathy Ontano, retired mail carrier, is running unopposed.

Board Member – 4-Year Term

Candidates include appointed incumbent Jay Egy, appointed incumbent Gary J. Fazio, appointed incumbent Michael J Pasternak, forestry technician Aoife Biehle, and self-employed Thomas Edward Deatley.
