The county is asking residents to stay off the road as flooding hits the North State.

“Due to severe weather and flooding in the Shasta County area road conditions are unsafe,” an alert sent out this afternoon by text and email just before 3 p.m. said. “We are asking that all residents remain in a safe location and avoid driving for their own safety and the safety of others.

The Redding Police Department issued a warning via social media around the same time saying their office is urging all motorists to use extreme caution as flooding has occurred on multiple roadways throughout the city. “Several lanes are currently impassable,” RPD wrote, “and conditions may continue to change rapidly.”

RPD says it’s receiving numerous calls due to stranded motorists and asked the public to remember to turn around when they see high water rather than attempting to move through it. “Even shallow water can stall your vehicle, sweep it off the roadway, or create dangerous situations for you and first responders,” RPD wrote. The public is asked to report hazardous conditions on roadways when safe to do so.

Rain is expected to continue to fall throughout the week.

  1. It would be nice to have road closure notices posted somewhere instead of driving all the way down Buenaventura and THEN find out the road was closed. Google had no alternative routes (but “she” hasn’t lived here 40+ years).

  2. Seems that the flooding in certain areas of Redding is quite serious.
BTW, Happy Winter Solstice to everybody!

  3. Which roads are flooded? Is there still a road open going east? Towards Adin?

    • Hi Misty! Sorry we didn’t see this right away.
