Shoe Fire Holding at 4,186 Acres as Red Flag Conditions Continue
There has been little spread since yesterday but fire risk remains critical through Saturday.

Newest update posted at 4:05 pm October 18. See resources below for latest updates.
The Shoe Fire is now at 4,186 acres with 8% containment. There are now 1,333 personnel assigned as part of a complex multi-agency team.
A press release from the United States Forest Service released at 12:23 pm today, October 18 said fire conditions have shown improvement despite red flag warning conditions.
“Overnight infrared readings have shown less heat and minimal growth from the previous day,” USFS spokeperson Kim Hill wrote.
“Additional resources continue to arrive to provide further support. Structural assessment teams are actively evaluating risks to residential properties along the Fenders Ferry corridor. A mobile retardant base has been established in Big Bend. These mobile retardant bases function as portable facilities that mix and store fire retardant, thereby enhancing aerial firefighting operations if needed.”
Gusty dry winds are expected to continue through tomorrow, Saturday, October 19, making the risk of spread relatively high. The community is encouraged to remain cautious. Mandatory evacuations remain in place for zone LKH-1448-B. Residents who have not evacuated are encouraged to do so.
The Shoe Fire, which began close to the Shoeinhorse Mountain, was human-caused, although no further details have been provided. There is a dedicated Shoe Fire 2024 Facebook page for updates and you can also check the Shoe Fire incident via InciWeb.
