Thousands attend ‘No Kings’ protest in Redding to denounce the Trump administration

The event held today, Oct. 18, was part of a nationwide protest movement advocating against what many say is President Donald Trump’s abuse of power.

More than 3,000 people gathered in front of the Redding City Hall and along Cypress Avenue for a “No Kings” protest this morning.

The Oct. 18 event was just one of more than 2,600 organized across the country as part of a nationwide protest movement against the policies of the Trump administration. The estimated crowd count for the Redding event was provided by organizers.

The nationwide protests demonstrate that the United States “does not belong to kings, dictators, or tyrants,” and that the Trump administration has pushed past its constitutional power into authoritarianism, according to the No Kings website. The movement’s national organizers cited ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests, the rollback of environmental protections and redistricting efforts in red states, among other actions, as ways the Trump administration is abusing its power.

The Redding protest was filled with music, dancing and cheering, unique signs denouncing President Donald Trump and smiling people of all ages. In conversation, many of the protesters voiced frustrations about Trump’s handling of immigrants in the U.S. and how they feel he’s overstepping his bounds as president.

“As a king, you don’t care about your people. You care about maintaining power,” said Shannon McMahon, a Redding resident who attended the protest. “And right now, I see the administration doing everything they can to maintain power. They say they’re doing what the voters asked for. But I’ve talked to people who voted for Trump; this is not what they asked for.”

Allene Fultz said she was born and raised in Redding, and that she’s disappointed to see the Trump administration “spin America in such a hateful way.”

“He’s just turning this country into something that I never wanted it to be, and what a lot of people don’t want it to be,” she said. “He’s spinning it like everybody wants the same things he does, and it’s just not true.”

No visible counter-protesters attended the Redding rally today — but the No Kings protest movement has drawn criticism from Republican leaders, including Speaker Mike Johnson, who labeled the protest as a “hate America rally.” Several people at the Redding protest told Shasta Scout they don’t see it that way.

“We can disagree with what the current Trump administration is doing without hating America,” Shasta County resident Brian Erickson said. “We wish to make a strong and independent America. We wish to really focus on having the most rights for the citizens, not for the corporations.”

Similarly, McMahon said she doesn’t think attending the No Kings protest made her anti-American.

“I see what we’re doing as actually protecting my American patriotism, my right to have a country where I can vote,” she said. “I want money spent on protecting the environment, or I want money spent on having more refugees be able to come in and find shelter here.”

This was the second nationwide No Kings protest event held — the first was held on June 14, the same day Trump held a U.S. Army 250th anniversary military parade on his birthday in Washington, D.C. More than 1,600 people attended the Redding No Kings protest in June.

Redding resident Joe Adams said he was glad so many people attended the protest today.

“It’s easy to feel alone when you’re just looking at stuff online and feel isolated,” Adams said. “I got a little choked up walking in here, just seeing all the people out here and the signs and the things like that. There’s a little sense of, ‘There’s more than just me that doesn’t like what’s happening.’”

  1. New talking point disseminated at the rally. “Make sure when you comment online to tell them you are a veteran.” Notice you are not hearing about specific units, times of service or mos’s from these supposed vet’s. A google search online reveals, One widely circulated fact is that George Soros’ foundations have provided $7.61 million in grants to Indivisible, an organization linked to the movement, but that number is presented as cumulative grant totals since 2017 and is not documented here as a discrete 2025 contribution to the rally itself.

  2. LOLOLOL! It looks like the trolls got tired of their safe haven Facebook

  3. No to Kings! No to Trump! No to Measure A!

  4. It is amazing to see such ignorant grownups protesting something they are making up in their pea brains. There is no such desire to be a king by our president – and how you people can come up with such nonesense and rubbish is very concerning. You people need to get out of your heads and stop thinking such negative trash about Trump. He is doing the best job of any president that has served in the White House and everyone of you protesters know it! You are just poor sports and sore loosers. Go do something productive like find a candidate for your democratic future, because if what has been showing up so far is the best you can do, then, it is already over. Also, you need to get a worthwhile agenda on what it is you democrats want to accomplish under a leader if you find one. Otherwise look at all the valuable time you are wasting on your silly platform you invented. Shame on you little imature brats who just want to be noticed who are not getting their way. You Poor Things!

    • Your response is funny considering all you are doing is name calling and slinging insults instead of attempting to bring facts that are contrary to the protests. Who is acting like an immature brat with a pea brain?

    • No, but nice rant

    • Spewing hate & name calling…Hmmm, just like your juvenile leader. I wonder how you’ll feel when you lose your Freedom of Speech and can no longer call anyone names.

But you are right, Trump is no King!

  5. Very interesting! 3% of Redding showed up! It’s also being reported by news outlets to include Andrew Wilcow how many of the photographs seen around the nation yesterday were stick photographs! I totally believe this. If the left has shown us anything, they are willing to go to any lengths to get their policies, however, terrible they may be, supported! Or fraudulently supported in this case.
    Have a nice day

  6. Army vet, attended Chico’s No Kings Day protest and was joined by a reported 7,000 others, with no push-backs at all locally! What is most impressive, however, was that there were demos in so many small N CA towns, usually bastions of conservative blindness! 80 years old, and I never conceived that my great country could sink so low as to elect a dictator-wannabe, and probably mess up our systems for decades to come. For my kids and grandkids, I marched — hope you did too!

    • Freiking demoncrats suck. God bless our great President Donald Trump of Almighty GOD

    • I find it extremely fascinating that those who protest against what they think as a king or being funded by socialist and communists! This is a fact already been proven. If you don’t believe it, go look it up! The donors to this ongoing protest are all the same. There is a list.

  7. One of the best signs I saw said “Flip us off if you regret voting for trump”. Hah!

  8. President Trump of course is not a king…but the Communist demos annointed that wino instead of her going through a primary…you guys are so ill-informed…

  9. As a senior citizen, a female, a Veteran who served 10 years and participated in chasing Russian submarines up/down the Eastern Seaboard from Iceland down to the Florida Keys, from 1977-1983, and then working at MEPS Oakland helping to enlist service members, until 1988, I was so proud of all the participants at the NO Kings Protest Rally yesterday! People are getting so creative with their signs, costumes, it was a joy to stand in solidarity with the more than 3,000 attendees in Redding, CA, and the more than 7 million simultaneously protesting Nationwide! Hoo-rah🇺🇸✊🏻🇺🇲

  10. In my opinion the most inherent American strength is the ability to protest and voice dissenting opinions. I do see an inordinate amount of people very aggressively opposed to liberals showing their collective voice and I think that alone is as anti American as it gets.

  11. I was so proud of our little town! It brought tears to my eyes to see thousands of people that showed up. I know many couldn’t come because of work. I wish all of the people driving by, honking, waving, and cheering could have had time to join us on the line.

  12. Shasta Scout, nice reporting. Regarding Redding’s NO KINGS DAY, there is so much to feel HAPPY about! From young kids to senior citizens (like you and me), to families, veterans, liberals, and conservatives, over 32000 people gathered in Redding, joining MILLION throughout the nation, to celebrate unity against what we see as open authoritarianism leading toward fascism. And to let folks like you know that nonviolent resistance, education, and voting could pull the US out of Trumpism’s tailspin before it’s too late. By the way, last week, an ABC News/Ipsos poll reported that 49% of registered voters surveyed identified Donald Trump as a fascist, defined as “a political extremist who seeks to act as a dictator, disregards individual rights, and threatens or uses violence against their opponents. ” And numerous reported incidents show the criminal is and does exactly that. Of course, MAGA will support its court-convicted sexual abuser, a 34-count felon, no matter what he does. In fact, despite being completely illegal, a Semafor poll indicates that 53% of Republican voters want Trump again in 2028, who says, “I won’t rule it out, ” and Nick, that is a definition of fascism. Nick, remember to vote YES ON PROP 50! Help stop Trump’s authoritarianism, which leads toward fascism.

    • I also think it is good that people speak up. However, in this case. people protested the wrong person. My wonderful President is working so hard to protect even the misguided protesting crowd and trying to clean out the Washington scum that have stolen from and uled to death the honest working people of our country. Maybe you all do not mind having illegal criminals filling our country, and gettign our tax dollars, but I do. And I have just as much right as you do to object. A king would have stopped your protests and probably had you thrown in jail like the last ruling group did to the J6 protesters. I won’t waste your time or mine trying to explain to you how wrong you are, tried that with others. You have been totally brainwashd by the people who only want your money and the ones who want to destroy our country. I just thank God that there are more of me than there are of you and we will save you and our county with all the help we are getting from President Teump. P.S. whether you like it or not

      • You?

      • He just gave ARGENTINA $40 BILLION DOLLARS of our TAX PAYER monies.

        He is a CONVICTED CRIMINAL.

    • 32k?

  13. I was so glad to see how many patriotic citizens came out to express their rights to free speech about all the horrible things Trump has been doing. Then Trump posted an AI video of himself in a fighter jet, wearing a crown, and dumping poo on peaceful protestors. No words can express what an embarrassment he is as a president.

    • FYI President Trump diD NOT post that!!

      • FYI, Trump DID post that video. Just type a query into your favorite search engine. I did, and found articles from Huff Post, NY Post (R-Wing), NY Times, The Hill, Axios, The Independent, and USA Today before the results ran out at the bottom of the page. I think you need to take a good, hard look at who’s really “brainwashed.” The ones who “want to destroy our country” are the ones who ignoring the US Constitution, every single day, and the one profiting off is Trump, doing things like turning the WH into a Tesla car lot & selling his own personal bit/meme coin. BTW, Trump lost the popular vote and only “won” due to the Electoral College, so there aren’t more of you than there are of us.

      • He REPOSTED it.

        Get your true facts straight.

No ALTERNATIVE FACTS (LIES) allowed here…

  14. I am so Ecstatic President Trump is our PRESIDENT. He is doing a fantastic service for AMERICA

    • YES HE IS jOYCE, THANK GOD YOU ARE NOT BRAINWASHED AND KNOW WHAT A GREAT JOB HE IS DOING!

      • YEAH WE REALLY NEEDED THAT $40 BILLION OF TAX PAYER MONEY FOR ARGENTINA. THANK JESUS OUR GOLDEN CALF TOOK OUT THAT GROSS THORNY ROSE GARDEN AND REPLACED IT WITH CEMENT. OH, AND PRAISE THE LORD THE WHITE HOUSE IS GETTING A MUCH NEEDED GOLD COVERED BALL ROOM!1 (SO CLASSY) GROCERY PRICES ARE HAVE INCREASED AND FARMERS ARE SUFFERING!! YIPPEE!!!! THANK YOU JESUS AND OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR TRUMPY RUMPY!

  15. Just wanted to pop in and say how ridiculous this contrived flash mob appears to those of us who understand what true fascism looks like. Glad all of you were home, tucked in safe and sound by 7pm. You’re welcome.

    • Right on NC, thank you

    • I understand what fascism is, very well. Here’s the definition: “A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, a capitalist economy subject to stringent governmental controls, violent suppression of the opposition, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism,” and “Oppressive, dictatorial control.” On October 8, 2025, Trump openly bragged, “We took the freedom of speech away…” That, sir, is fascism. Taking over the Constitutionally defined duties of Congress, such as unilaterally ordering tariffs, is fascism. Issuing Executive Orders that are against established law is fascism. Wholesale firing of experienced government & military leaders, in order to install completely inexperienced loyalists, is pure fascism. Firing Federal workers because they’re Democrats is fascism. Ordering the militia into American cities — against the American people — while using outright lies to justify doing so, is unconstitutional fascism. Abusing his executive powers by ordering the DOJ to selectively prosecute his political enemies is fascism. Slandering the Democrats on government websites is not only an egregious violation of the Hatch Act, it’s also an act of fascism. Attacking the freedom of the press, and the freedom of universities to teach established truth, is fascism. Forcing the Smithsonian to take down displays that offend him for telling the truth is fascism. And that’s just a sample of the fascist acts Trump has done. Two of my uncles, as well as my father-in-law (who was at Normandy) fought fascism at the risk of their lives. They knew it took years for Hitler to rise in power, and consolidate that power, before he could begin his bloody rampage across Europe — and that he was only able to do so because misguided followers cheered him on. I grew up being taught to honor those who were ready to die for the cause of anti-fascism, and I’m proud to call myself an antifascist. And when anyone disrespects other Americans for exercising their 1st Amendment rights, by calling them “a contrived flash mob,” then they’re edging close to the edges of fascism, themselves. True patriots support the US Constitution, and stand firm against the creeping onslaught of fascism. It’s just that simple.

    • Trus Fascism?

Was your family in a Prison Camp for 4 years during WWII?

      I think not.

      He is an absolute FASCIST.

      • Mine was actually. And most of them died there– Konigsberg. American democrats, especially the new left, not the old Catholic left, have no comprehension of what true evil and suffering is.

Comparing Trump to Hiltler, or Jan 6th to a coup d’etat is the definition of hyperbole and intellectually nauseating.

  16. It was wonderful seeing such a great turnout! This was not a rally against America! It was in support of a country we love but currently dislike what is happening! Let’s all try to work together!!!

  17. There is only one King and HIS name is JESUS!

    • Amen Chris

    • Amen

    • My Bible is the United States Constitution, and anyone who repeatedly tramples that document, and our rights, underfoot is no president I recognize. On January 20, 2025, Donald Trump swore this oath: “I, Donald Trump, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of the President of the United States, and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. So help me God.” And if you look at photos taken at that moment, he did NOT place his hand on the Christian Bible his wife held. He has made a mockery of your Bible and mine, sir. How can you, an avowed Christian, uphold a man who has made a mockery of every virtue Jesus told his followers to live by?

    • Yes. And he is coming for TRUMP and all of you soon…

  18. this makes me so HAPPY and HOPEFUL!

  19. Thanks to all who turned out to protest “No Kings” rally. What a great turnout! I had to work during that time. And hats off to some of the protest signs, they were brilliant!

    • Workers make America great!

  20. What a fantastic day in our beautiful city. So proud to join this large group of people that are willing to standup for OUR democracy!!

  21. Headlines should read:
Agitators Forget The King Was Gone September 3, 1783!
    Or:
Agitators Disrespect The Marines Anniversary Day!

After September 3, 1783, Britain surrendered. All presidents and representees have been elected from that day forward. Our Great President Donald J Trump and the current Congress was elected in November 2024. The results were outstanding for Trump winning 312 electoral votes, winning 77,303,568 million popular votes, and winning 2,633 counties out of 3,060 counties.

Kings do not get this kind of approval. So, all these goofy far-left agitators should know by now that the American people do not want communism or socialism in our beautiful USA! These few Agitating goofy people want a handout of free stuff instead of a hand up.
They can rant and rage all they want. But they have to wait for election day.

    • Sadly, you are so wrong! You should review our U.S. Constitution and the amendments. Specifically, look up Emoluments Clause and the whole 1st amendment as well. By the way, multiple Veteran’s, some of whom told me they were Marines, were at the event today with signs expressing frustration and anger toward Trump and his administration.

    • oh, happy you really don’t sound too happy at all, trump HAS already admitted that elon CHEATED him in multiple times. He was installed AGAIN BY DARK MONEY! You are defending the rapist of children, SHAME ON YOU. We were protesting trump FOR OUR CHILDREN’S FUTURES! .We DO NOT WANT trump’s fascist America. WE ARE ANTIFA!

    • You are ignorant and your comments are nugatory…

My Marine Corps Birthday (Anniversary) is November 10th.

You know nothing about the Marine Corps.

You, Sir, are just a troll…

And, you are a coward as well…

      • Says the man who won’t use his real name….

My father, a Navy man, for 3 days and nights pulled out bodies and transported them to the hospital Pearl Harbor. He told me young dying marines cried out for their momma just like anyone else. I know much about Marines…

    • Thank you Happy Citizen. You are correct all of our Presidents so far have been elected. But I can only recall one who fomented an insurrection in an attempt to retain the Presidency. And, of course, the current Congress was elected. They even swore an oath to the Constitution that they seem to have forgotten as they have surrendered their power as a co-equal branch to the Executive.
People often make choices that do not turn out to benefit them. It happened in the last Presidential election. As farmers, industrial workers, government workers and grocery buyers can attest.
There a number of Kings who come to mind that have been popular with lager numbers of their populations. Cyrus, Augustus, Alexander, Charlemagne, Frederick, Louis XIV, Genghis Khan and Peter were all revered during their reigns.
I find it interesting that those interested in protecting our Constitutional Democratic Republic, the Constitution, national traditions and values are labeled as communist or socialist, (two very different political systems), neither of which the “No Kings” protesters advocated. Or that you do not seem to acknowledge the limited socialism, (police and fire depts., roads, sewers, or any of the other government provided services we want), already exists.
So as one of those “Agitating goofy people” I assure you that I don’t want “free stuff” anymore than I want the theocratic fascist form of autocracy that our nation is being turned into by the current administration and it’s supporters.
And, by the way, I am a vet who served with the Marines and I approve this protest.

      • Semper Fi

    • Well said, thank you

    • After firing live artillery over the busiest California freeway and hitting police vehicles with shrapnel, the Marines have lost my respect. The Marines announced there was no need to shut down the freeway, then called Cal Trans & told them to shut it down AFTER it was too late to do so. Under the US Constitution, the military is sworn to protect the American people, not put them at risk at the whim of a spoiled, old, rich fascist. That includes invading American cities so the would-be dictator they serve can TRY (and fail) to intimidate those who didn’t vote for him. Talk about being petty & childish — and the military is backing up his unConstitutional actions. Bottom line: they have betrayed our country by turning against those they’re supposed to fight for. My family has fought for this country since the American Revolution, and my ancestors would be appalled if they could see what’s happening in our nation. Especially the men in my family who formerly served with the Marines!

  22. It makes me feel so good to know I’m not alone. There was such a great turnout and so many supporters driving by…

  23. The flipside of the sign in the final photo read, “. . . and How Many Lawbreakers Did You Pardon?”
