On Friday March 22, the Shasta County’s Election Office released updated vote totals and a statement saying that all but approximately 803 ballots have now been counted.
The latest election results show the attempted recall of Shasta County’s District 1 Supervisor Kevin Crye continuing to fail, but only by 48 votes.
Surprisingly, about 300 fewer District 1 residents voted for the recall than those who signed their names to put the recall on the ballot in the first place. About 44% of Shasta County’s registered District 1 voters cast a vote for or against the recall.
Meanwhile in the District 2 County Supervisor race, new results show Allen Long continuing to hold on to enough votes to win the primary. He needs 50% plus one vote to avoid fighting for his seat again in the fall general elections. Long currently has 50.21% of the vote, meaning he’s currently holding onto his unofficial primary win by less than two dozen votes.
After Shasta County’s Clerk and Registrar of Voters Cathy Darling Allen certifies the vote, which is expected to occur this week, members of the public have five days to request an official recount of any race. The cost of such a recount would fall on the requesting party.
