A hired security guard stands in the back alley behind the Shasta County Elections Office on November 8, 2022. See our coverage of election night here.

In the fall of 2022, we launched our Elections Dash with basic voting information, links to local political forums, live Instagram story coverage of many of those forums, and and trustworthy links to information about political candidates at the state level.

We also flipped the script on how the media usually covers elections by asking you, our community, to respond to a survey about what questions we should ask candidates. We used your questions as the basis for long-form interviews with nine candidates for Redding’s City Council and four candidates for Shasta County’s Board of Supervisors. We also modified those questions to conduct email interviews with candidates for the Shasta County Board of Education and the Anderson Cottonwood Irrigation District.

The process resulted in our Meet the Candidate series, seventeen elections-focused stories that many of you told us directly impacted your vote by providing critical information for decision-making. That impact was made possible by our community’s willingness to collaborate with us in the news-making process. Thank you!

Today, we’re closing the loop on our elections coverage by asking for your feedback. How well did we cover local elections? What can we do better? We’d so appreciate your responses to this three-question, five-minute, anonymous survey.
