📝 Anderson Union High School District Board, August 22, 2023

Vaccine exemptions, a new parent engagement committee, adding a school resource officer and a parental notification policy were the hot items on the Anderson Union High School Board’s agenda for Tuesday, August 22. The Board decided to temporarily table the issue of vaccines, which means they’ll continue, for now, to allow students without valid CAIR medical exemptions to attend the school. They approved a parent engagement committee after a parent organizer indicated a significant goal was to engage the greater community in fundraising and support for sports. They also approved a new parental notification policy that requires credentialed staff to inform parents within three days of a student’s requests for changes in the name or pronouns they use at school. The new policy may contradict state law and also poses labor concerns, according to a labor organizer who spoke at the meeting. See our story here.
