City of Redding announces retirement of Interim City Manager Steve Bade
He’s retiring after nearly three decades working for the city of Redding. He had applied for the city manager role that was just given to a different candidate.

Redding’s Interim and former Assistant City Manager, Steve Bade, is retiring. A press release today from the city stated that his final day in office will be Dec. 19.
Bade has served the city for nearly three decades. After former City Manager Barry Tippin retired earlier this year, Bade was appointed as interim city manager.
The announcement from the city comes just days after a new city manager was chosen by the city council, a position which Bade had applied for but didn’t receive.
Bade has served the city since 1998 and oversaw various city entities as assistant city manager, including the Housing Division, Redding Area Bus Authority, the Airports Division and the Economic Development and Innovation Division. He has also served as Redding’s Downtown Liaison since 2009, working with local businesses, property owners and community members to revitalize Downtown Redding.
“It has been a great honor to serve this community and raise my family in Redding,” Bade said in the press release. “I am proud of my contributions to the revitalization of Downtown and the progress we have made together.”
Since the newly selected city manager, William Tarbox, won’t be starting until next year, the city council has appointed Kari Kibler, who’s currently Redding’s personnel director, as a new interim city manager. She will fill in starting Dec. 21.
Also in the press release, Mayor Mike Littau praised Bade for his service to the city.
“Steve’s dedication to this community and to the organization has been exceptional,” Littau said. “His work has helped move key initiatives forward and will have a lasting impact on Redding for years to come.”
