🌳 City of Redding General Plan Update Information Session, August 23, 2023
Redding’s fifth and final General Plan Update community meeting was held on Wednesday evening, August 23. Community Engagement meetings like this are part of how the city is continuing to work towards a finalized update to its General Plan, an overarching planning document that provides the outer boundaries for how planning staff and public officials like City Planning Commissioners and City Council members can continue to develop, and preserve, land in Redding.
The information that Senior Planning Manager Vishnu Krishnan presented was mostly focused on feedback provided by community stakeholder groups throughout the development of the draft plan. Krishnan also provided room for community members at the meeting to contribute their own feedback through three responsive activities accessible via QR code. The feedback collected from these activities, Krishnan said, will be shared with the Redding Planning Commission moving forward.
Only four community members attended the meeting, the fewest of any of the five meetings, City staff told Shasta Scout. While the public’s general feedback about Redding during the meeting was often in sync, clear differences in opinion also emerged during candid questions and discussion. Those differences, including whether to develop the city in ways that appeal to the older generation or the younger, show the complexities of thinking through planning at a very big-picture level, as the General Plan requires. You can learn more about the General Plan from Shasta Scout here. And see the community’s General Plan website here. Online public comment on the draft plan and the associated Environmental Impact Report are open for two more days, until August 28.
