Shasta County Elections 2024: Here’s Who’s Running for School Boards in Shasta County

Here’s an overview of who’s running for some of the most important seats across Shasta County. We’ll expand this coverage with more detail, soon.

Editor’s Note: We have listed candidates in the order they appear on the official candidate list and we’ve identified their occupations in the same way.

Shasta County Office of Education

The Shasta County Office of Education (SCOE) Board has seven Board members who serve four-year terms as representatives of one of the two Areas within the County. Both Area 1 and 2 have Board seats up for election this fall, although one seat in Area 2 is only for a partial two-year term. All Shasta County voters live in either Area 1 or 2, so all ballots will include a SCOE Board member item. See a map of SCOE Board Areas here.

SCOE Area 1, 4-Year Term – 1 seat up for election:

Candidates include educator Michael Orlicky and substitute paraprofessional Michele Renee Tyson.

SCOE Area 2, 2-Year Term – 1 seat up for election:

Candidates include business owner and homemaker Teresa Roberts and appointed incumbent Cindy Vogt.

SCOE Area 2, 4-Year Term – 2 seats up for election:

Candidates include business owner Dolores Lucero, commercial driver Richard Gallardo, appointed incumbent Amy Cavalleri, Regional Director and mother Jessica French, parent advocate Jackie LaBarbera and retired educator Don Aust.


Shasta College Trustee Board

The Shasta College Trustee Board includes seven trustees who hold four-year terms. Four seats are up for re-election. Only registered voters within Areas A, C, D, and E will receive ballots with a Shasta College Trustee item. See a map of the Shasta College Trustee Board Areas Here.

Shasta College Trustee Area A, 4-Year Term – 1 seat up for election

Kendall S. Pierson, incumbent, is running unopposed.

Shasta College Trustee Area C, 4-Year Term – 1 seat up for election

Candidates include registered nurse Paula C. Percy and incumbent Scott J. Swendiman.

Shasta College Trustee Area D, 4-Year Term – 1 seat up for election

Candidates include retired college educator Jim Middleton and parent/consultant Lori McNeill.

Shasta College Trustee Area E, 4-Year Term – 1 seat up for election

Debbie Bourne, realtor, is running unopposed.


Fall River Joint Unified School District

The Fall River Joint Unified School District Board includes five Board members who hold four-year terms. Two seats are up for election.

Candidates include incumbent Ignacio “Iggy” Venegas, incumbent Jack Hathaway, retired division chief Debbie Mayer, and incumbent Megan Estes.


Gateway Unified School District

The Gateway Unified School District Board includes five Board members who represent the districts three trustee areas. Trustee Area 1: Lakehead, Trustee Area 2: Shasta, Trustee Area 3: Buckeye. Registered voters can only vote for Board members up for election in their trustee area. Each Board member holds a four-year term.

Board Member, Area 1 – 1 seat up for election

Phil Lewis, incumbent, is running unopposed.

Board Member, Area 3 – 1 seat up for election

Candidates include parent Bobbie Simpson and incumbent Elias Haynes.


Dunsmuir Joint Union School District

The Dunsmuir Joint Union School District Board includes five members who hold four-year terms. Three seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include Thelma Mariella Hines, incumbent Jean E Rogers, and incumbent Jeremiah LaRue.


Bella Vista School District

The Bella Vista Elementary School District Board includes five members who hold four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Greg Covington, incumbent, is running unopposed.


Black Butte Union School District

The Black Butte Union School District Board includes five members who hold four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Carolyn Suzanne Christian, appointed incumbent, is running unopposed.


Castle Rock Union School District

The Castle Rock Union School District Board includes five members who hold four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include Stacey Laub, incumbent, and Marlene “Pinky” Hines.


Columbia School District

The Columbia School District Board includes five members who hold four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include incumbent Walter Albert and teacher Bridgette Jacobson.


Cottonwood Union School District

The Cottonwood Union School District Board includes five members who hold four-year terms. One two-year partial term seat and two four-year term seats are up for election this fall.

Board Member, 2-Year Term – 1 seat up for election

Troy Kamisky, appointed incumbent, is running unopposed.

Board Member, 4-Year Term – 2 seats up for election

Candidates include business owner/parent Jason Kyle Smith, incumbent James O’Brien, and small business owner Matthew Iles.


French Gulch – Whiskeytown Union School District

The French Gulch – Whiskeytown Union School District Board includes five members who hold two-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Sara Wells is running unopposed.


Grant School District

The Grant School District Board includes five members who hold four-year terms. One two-year partial term seat and two four-year term seats are up for election this fall.

Board Member, 2-Year Term – 1 seat up for election

Candidates include emergency medicine physician Kathy Reschke (Steiner), special education director Raymond Witte, and program coordinator Megan L. Johnson.

Board Member, 4-Year Term – 2 seats up for election

Candidates include educator/parent Rob Garnero, Lindsay Lamb, and appointed incumbent Forrest Wilder.


Happy Valley Union School District

The Happy Valley Union School District Board includes five members holding four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include parent/educator Billy Soksoda, teacher/mother/farmer Bridget Marie Soksoda, parent Erin Ciaponni, homemaker Jennifer Bross, mother/nurse/wife Jacque Brousseau, and parent Josh Hancock.


Igo-Ono-Platina Union School District

The Igo-Ono-Platina Union School District Board includes three members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Clinton Matheson, appointed incumbent, is running unopposed.


Junction School District

The Junction School District Board includes three members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include substitute teacher/parent Sarah A. McCoy, homemaker Brooke Worden, and incumbent Kristen Knott.


Antelope School District

The Antelope School District Board includes five members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Shawn Snider, appointed incumbent, is running unopposed.


Millville School District

The Millville School District Board includes five members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include incumbent Sylvana Neilson and appointed incumbent Kevin Bertlin.


Mountain Union School District

The Mountain Union School District Board includes five members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Shane Kidson, incumbent, is running unopposed.


North Cow Creek School District

The North Cow Creek School District Board includes five members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include structural engineer Shawn Wade and appointed incumbent Jacob R. Baldwin.


Oak Run School District

The Oak Run School District Board includes five members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include appointed incumbent Luke Pearson and appointed incumbent Deatra “Dede” Masala.


Pacheco Union School District

The Pachecho Union School District Board includes five members serving four-year terms. Three seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include incumbent George H. Wold II and appointed incumbent Andrew Gumm.


Redding School District

The Redding School District Board includes five members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include appointed incumbent Megan Owens and parent/epidemiologist supervisor Daniel Walker.


Shasta Union Elementary School District

The Shasta Union Elementary School Board includes five members serving four-year terms. Two seats are up for election this fall.

Candidates include retired educator Moira Casey and civil engineer Brandy Brushett-Chalfant.


Whitmore Union School District

The Whitmore Union School Board includes three members serving four-year terms. One seat is up for election this fall.

Hal Williams, appointed incumbent, is running unopposed.


Cascade Union School District

The Cascade Union School Board includes five board members serving four-year terms who represent one of five areas. One seat in Area 3 and one seat in Area 5 are up for election this fall.

Board Member – Area 3

Sydney Figone, parent, is running unopposed.

Board Member – Area 5

Candidates include appointed incumbent Jason Foster and educator Tye Burgess.


Anderson Union High School District

The Anderson Union High School Board includes five members serving four-year terms who represent one of five areas. One seat in Area 3 and one seat in Area 5 are up for election this fall.

Board Member – Area 3

Tara “Omana” Weeks, bookkeeper/educator/mother, is running unopposed.

Board Member – Area 5

Candidates include social worker Alicia Ramirez and parent Julia Rinauro.


Enterprise School District

The Enterprise School District Board includes five members serving four-year terms who represent one of five trustee areas. One seat in Area 1, one seat in Area 5, and one seat At Large Short are up for election this fall. At Large indicates that this member will serve the entire district. Short indicates the candidate will fill the remainder of a term.

Board Member – Trustee Area 1

Troy A. Wright, appointed incumbent, is running unopposed.

Board Member – Trustee Area 5

Gloria Valles, appointed incumbent, is running unopposed.

Board Member – At Large Short

At Large indicates that this member will serve the entire district. Short indicates the candidate will fill the remainder of a term.

Candidates include appointed incumbent Renee Menefee and parent/business owner Robin Littau.


Shasta Union High School District

The Shasta Union High School District Board includes five members serving four-year terms who represent one of five trustee areas. One seat in Area 1, one seat in Area 4, one seat At Large Short Area 3, and one seat At Large Short Area 5 are up for election this fall. At Large indicates that this member will serve the entire district. Short indicates the candidate will fill the remainder of a term.

Ronald W. Zufall, appointed incumbent, is running unopposed.

Board Member – Trustee Area 4

Joe Ayer, appointed incumbent, is running unopposed.

Board Member – At Large 3 – Short

Michael Bridges is running unopposed.

Board Member – At Large 5 – Short

Lucas Wilson, appointed incumbent, is running unopposed.
