Special board meeting called to address ballot shredding, not subpoena, Kelstrom says
A special county board meeting scheduled for today was cancelled this morning. The meeting was intended to address next steps related to ballot shredding, Board Chair Chris Kelstrom said. Since the 2024 ballots were shredded on Saturday, no special meeting was needed.
A special Shasta County Board meeting scheduled for this afternoon was cancelled early this morning.
An announcement of the special meeting posted on the county website Friday noted only that it was related to anticipated litigation, without explaining what the litigation might relate to. Reporting Friday indicated that the meeting may have been called to address a legal threat against the county from Shasta Scout, related to a federal subpoena. But Shasta County Board Chair Chris Kelstrom dispelled that idea today by text.
Kelstrom said the special board meeting was actually called to address concerns about Shasta Elections official Clint Curtis having failed to shred 2024 ballots by the legal deadline. Curtis took action to ensure the shredding of those ballots on Saturday. That made today’s special board meeting moot, Kelstrom wrote, leading to the cancellation.
Shasta County has not responded to Shasta Scout’s legal threat sent Friday regarding a public records request for a federal subpoena Curtis received last month. The county has refused to release the subpoena, arguing that federal law prohibits releasing information related to grand jury proceedings.
The First Amendment Coalition, which is representing Shasta Scout, has issued a legal demand stating that the federal rule does not appear to apply in this case and giving the county through Oct. 7, to release the subpoena or face a potential lawsuit.

What this is really about is the trump epstein files list of pedo christian freaks here in Shasta County soj militia land running our country into the ground as a lady resort and according to past court cases, ppl have already been murdered because of all of the above and much more.
I would encourage the Shasta Scout and other media outlets to hold off from filing a writ. I believe soon the public will become aware that a department head filed a claim and a confidential settlement agreement was entered into. Shasta County council will most likely attempt to conceal that agreement. Then file a writ for both. Also,if the November election proceeds as planned, the lack of transparency may add a few more items to be included. The department head will most likely file his claim after November 3rd election and before the new board takes office in January, so it should be a short wait.
And poof! With a dismissive wave of the hands, the BOS makes the issue disappear.
And we sit down, shut up and keep our collective mouths shut?
Nothing disappeared except the shredded ballots, which effectively ended that issue. Why go through with an emergency meeting to address the ballot disposal issue if it’s already been resolved?

As for the federal subpoena, that issue hasn’t gone anywhere. They County is either going to cough it up or get sued.
