California Supreme Court to hold oral argument session in Shasta for first time in over 20 years

The California Supreme Court is holding an oral argument outreach session in Shasta County on Oct. 7. It will be the first oral argument held in the county since 2005.

The state supreme court holds outreach sessions across the state, and they’re an opportunity for youth and the public to better understand how the judicial system operates. 

The session will be held at the David Marr Theater at the University Preparatory School in Redding. Students and teachers from Shasta schools will attend, a press release from the Shasta County Superior Court said. Students will have the chance to ask justices questions about their roles in the judicial system before observing oral arguments. 

“The opportunity for these students to observe real legal arguments helps turn an abstract idea like the rule of law into something tangible,” said Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero in the press release. “We hope they leave here with a better understanding of California’s justice system and even consider a future career in law.” 

The session will also be open to the public and will be broadcast live on the California Supreme Court website, which is also where the schedule of cases to be heard can be found. The livestream can also be found on the California Courts Newsroom. It starts at 9 a.m. on Oct. 7.
