Building Bridges, an Initiative to Cross Divides

United Way launches an initiative to help bridge political divides. The first event will occur on October 29.

As the gap between either end of the political spectrum grows ever wider, what are constructive ways people can engage in respectful and productive conversations? The United Way of Northern California has announced Building Bridges, a new campaign intent on promoting civil discourse in an increasingly divisive political environment.

On October 29, join Rich Harwood, President and Founder of The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation, for a discussion on this topic–and potential solutions to the tension beneath the surface of local politics in Shasta County. For those closer to Butte County, a similar event will take place on October 28 in Oroville.

Shasta County is hardly the only area of the US whose communities are divided. Around the country, the Harwood Institute has served as a resource to facilitate conversations about tough issues, and ones that have torn small towns apart. With the election approaching, meaningful dialogue is particularly important. At Tuesday’s event, Hardwood will deliver a keynote address that encourages voters to transcend their ideological differences in service of mending the problems that affect small communities.
