Measure B continues to succeed, incumbents still failing, new vote totals show

The Shasta County elections office updated vote totals this afternoon. Incumbents are still behind for three important local seats on the ballot, while Measure B — a controversial election initiative — continues to succeed. There are about 2,500 ballots left to be processed, the office says.

New voting results have been updated, and Measure B — a controversial election initiative — is still succeeding. Meanwhile, incumbents for three key county positions continue to fail. About 2,500 ballots are left to be processed, according to election results released shortly before 5 p.m. on Monday.

The results for Measure B, a charter amendment that would make significant changes to Shasta’s election processes, show the initiative still leading with 55.33% of the vote. It’s maintained a consistent lead since results started coming in last week.

Former Assistant Registrar of Voters Joanna Francescut appears likely to beat ROV Clint Curtis in the primary, with 58.05% of the vote.

Redding City Council member Erin Resner is poised to win the seat for Shasta District 1 supervisor over incumbent Supervisor Kevin Crye, with 54.54% of the votes.

For District 5 supervisor, the race remains narrow: Mike Gallagher is still leading with 49.1% of the vote, with incumbent Supervisor Chris Kelstrom holding 41.19%. To win the primary, Gallagher needs to receive 50% of the votes plus one. If he doesn’t, he and Kelstrom would both advance to the general election this November.

So far, 52,848 ballots have been counted, which is about 45% of Shasta County’s registered voter population. According to the Shasta voting results site, another update should be posted by 6:30 p.m. June 9.

  1. A clean sweep would have been nice, but this is a great result. Curtis and Crye gone, Kelstrom is looking pretty shaky for a runoff. Measure B(ozo) will be a dead letter. The pressure must be kept on for the rest of the year. The budget process will be an opportunity to cause problems on the way out the door. Kelstrom will have to behave himself, but Crye is vindictive.
