Erin Resner wins race for Shasta District 1 supervisor, shifting board majority
Near-final ballot numbers show Resner as victor. The current Redding City Council member has beat out incumbent Supervisor Kevin Crye, who’s part of a three-person group on the board that often votes together.

Erin Resner has won the race for Shasta County’s District 1 supervisor with more than 54% of the vote, beating out incumbent Supervisor Kevin Crye and candidate Richard Gallardo. All that was needed for her to win in the primary was 50% of the vote plus one. Results are still unofficial, but almost all ballots have been processed.
Resner, who currently serves as a Redding City Council member, said in an email statement that she accepts the results with “deep gratitude and humility.”
“This victory belongs to the entire community and to the extraordinary coalition of Republicans, Democrats, independents, business leaders, labor, tribal leaders, and neighbors who came together around a shared belief that respectful, accountable leadership still matters,” she said. “I’m incredibly grateful for their trust and excited to get to work serving everyone in District 1.”
Resner’s win disrupts the board majority, marking a potentially major change in the direction of the board. Supervisors Crye, Chris Kelstrom and Corkey Harmon frequently vote on issues as a group, comprising a majority of the five-person board. Their often unwavering collaboration has come under scrutiny in the past, such as when they voted against a behavioral health facility last October.
While Kelstrom’s opponent, Mike Gallagher, won a majority of the vote for District 5 supervisor, he did not receive enough votes to win the primary election — 50% plus one. He and Kelstrom will advance to the general election in November. Public comments during the last regular board meeting show Kelstrom is already facing pressure to distance himself from Crye. Whether he maintains his seat may determine to what extent the board’s approach to governance shifts.
Resner beat Crye by nearly 1,500 votes, a much larger margin than her loss to Crye in 2022. In that race, he beat her by less than 100 votes.
She announced her campaign last December, saying she felt it was her duty to run against Crye to ensure voters another option in the race after Kurt Swanson withdrew.
“I truly believe that our community is looking for someone who is going to be the adult in the room,” she said.
In an interview with Shasta Scout for a previous story, Resner said as supervisor, she wants to advocate for funding for mental health services, coordinate programs and resources that serve homeless people and hire a firm to conduct an efficiency study on the county’s departments and finances — something the city of Redding is currently in the process of.
Her term will begin in January.

Thank God.
Watch the money! Maybe with Erin will finally get an answer to where that $11 million went??
Kelstrom came within 97 votes of losing his seat like Crye did. Hopefully he understands that not only should he distance himself from Crye, he should get out of his silo and start LISTENING to his constituents.
Corky will probably have to bail.
My message to Erin Resner… Please dont make the same mistake as Kevin Crye
E Mail To Redding California Shasta County Supervisor Kevin Crye…
“You know Mr Crye it sure would be nice if would stop talking ad nauseam about your pet medical school project or election integrity and discuss the real safety issue facing Redding and Shasta County of dozens of arsonists paroled here staying at Redding motels!…
Combine this travesty with the lack of funds Cal Fire has and Trumps desire to cut the Forest Service and we have a REAL recipe for disaster!…
You have a very powerful voice in our community and beyond and it is my wish you would use it…
Kevin Crye, can you speak at the next Redding City council meeting and address the horrific dangers facing your district and surrounding area of your responsibility?…
I fought fire for 20 plus years so I can see forces coming together that will be a real threat for those living in the hills that surround Redding and Shasta County…
I thought District 1 encompasses downtown Redding?…
As you can see I am sounding the alarm on my blog and Reddit, which is approaching 10, 000 views…
I pray you take this in the Spirit in which it is intended…
“Because Redding is a large city, it is split across multiple supervisorial districts. District 1 specifically covers downtown Redding, as well as the neighborhoods located in the central and northern areas of the city.”..

Dear God, it’s about time.
After Kelstrom loses his seat in the November election, poor Corky isn’t going to have any clue what to do.
His stature as a classic post turtle will shine: abandoned and stranded alone in a place where he does not belong, looking for help to come down before he falls in disgrace.
