Redding City Council member Erin Resner to challenge Supervisor Kevin Crye for Shasta’s District 1 seat.
Resner says she feels it’s her duty to run against Crye, after his only opponent dropped out of the race a week ago. “I truly believe the community is looking for someone to be the adult in the room,” Resner said.

Yesterday, Erin Resner officially announced that she’ll be challenging Supervisor Kevin Crye for Shasta County’s District 1 seat in 2026. In a press release Resner framed her campaign as “taking back the people’s seat.”
“Like many of you, I’ve had enough — enough chaos, enough inconsistency, and enough leadership that puts politics before people. That ends now,” Resner stated. Her campaign promises include supporting the understaffed district attorney’s office, as well as a proposed alternative custody facility, and the True North mental health facility.
Resner is currently serving on the Redding City Council for the second time after being re-elected for a two-year term in 2024. Her position will end in December of 2026, one month before someone will take their seat as the supervisor for District 1 in Jan. 2027.
This is the second time Resner will run against Crye. IN 2022, she lost by just 90 votes. Since then, he’s faced a recall, surviving the ousting attempt by a mere 50 votes.
Crye has now served as the chair of the board for the last two years. This week, three of the five supervisors voted Chris Kelstrom into the leadership position after Crye said he no longer wanted it, sharing news of a personal health diagnosis. He confirmed for Shasta Scout today that he still intends to run for reelection. “We are getting a lot of great work done. I wish Erin Resner the best,” Crye wrote by text.
Addressing her run against Crye in 2022, Resner reflected on how she dealt with her critics at the time, saying “I allowed a lot of aggression and misinformation and anger to be spread around the community.” This time she said she will not allow bad behavior to go unchecked while also maintaining a more careful tone.
The recent decision to run for the board again, she added, was a surprise, even for her. “If you had asked me two weeks ago, I would have said, absolutely not,” Resner said about her last minute decision to launch a campaign for supervisor. Resner said she decided to run after Kurt Swanson, a public accountant and former finance director for the City of Shasta Lake, announced that he was dropping his campaign for supervisor against Crye last week.
“I was absolutely unwilling to let Kevin cry run unopposed,” Resner said. “I think that our community has had enough.” If she’s elected, she said she will work to accommodate the perspectives of Crye’s supporters, utilizing the experience she has gained as she confronts areas of conflict in her current position on the Redding Council.
“I truly believe that our community is looking for someone who is going to be the adult in the room,” Resner said.
Supervisors Crye, Chris Kelstrom, and Corkey Harmon frequently vote as a bloc of three, comprising a majority of the board. In October, that majority came under scrutiny for their vote of opposition to the proposed True North behavioral health facility. As support for the proposed facility has grown, both Kelstrom and Harmon have reversed course on the issue, but Crye said this week he remains uncertain.
If Resner replaces Crye, that would disrupt the current majority’s collective voting power. Kelstrom is also running for reelection in 2026, posing another opportunity for the status quo to be disrupted, or maintained. He’s running against former supervisor Tim Garman.

Isn’t anybody concerned about the $45 million for the Zogg fire? Might want to take a look at that before you vote.
“Resner says she feels it’s her duty to run against Crye, after his only opponent dropped out of the race a week ago.”
Didn’t Resner encourage/coerce Kurt Swanson to drop out so as to not split the anti-Crye vote again?
Harry/Jay: Any source for this?
What does anyone’s religion have to do with whether they will represent the people well? Do we care if someone is Buddhist or Wiccan or Agnostic, or just if they go to Bethel? Separation of church and state please.
Crye’s proclaimed Christianity clearly has nothing to do with how he chooses to behave or decisions he makes on behalf of the citizens. AND Kevin regularly makes whatever narcissistic choices he feels will benefit himself to keep his power trip on track. His actions and words prove he could literally care less about the people he is supposed to represent.
If Erinn is going to be another Matt, sign me up to campaign for her. Because Matt researches, engages and listens, takes his civic duty seriously, and works hard to collaborate and compromise for the good of the whole county – not himself or his little crew of buddies.
I don’t agree with his religious beliefs, but I haven’t seen his theology interfere with his ability to represent his District well. Too bad if you don’t like his church. Council Members are not preachers and Matt doesn’t pretend or try to be one.
Crye is the only one I’ve seen cross that line, even though apparently he goes to an “acceptable” church. (By the way, I sure wish his Pastor would reprimand Kevin for being such an ugly, hypocritical witness).
I’ll take Erinn to bust up the bullies, serve the people with integrity, treat residents with respect, and use her head and heart instead of her pride.
Thank you for not being willing to leave us in the lurch, Erinn.
Erin doesn’t care about the safety of the citizens in the Quartz Hill area by voting for the Peaks subdivision. Now, she wants our vote. I don’t think so! Someone else please step up to run for supv.
Praise the almighty. A woman and disciple of the holy one is going to lead the county. Let it be his will.
More supernatural Bethel power to pair w Matt. It’s like a comic book team-up. Replace fake-christian, Kevin with cult member Erin. It’s a superficial swapping the red neck tie for a bedazzled crucifix— both leverage their homophobic memberships for business networking opportunities. But, hey, it’s in new packaging. And miss me with Tim Garman making a return. That jellyfish was played by Patrick Jones for the world to see–voting for his gun range when he thought PJ would get him a pay raise–it’s pathetic to be outsmarted by someone with the IQ of a wild boar. Imagine what gymnastics the Bethelites will have spineless Tim doing, by month 3 he’ll be wearing a Bethel t-hirt, deely-boppers, and singing “take me to your leader.” That said, 2026 will be must see tv: the new cast members of the new season of the Shasta County Board of Supervisors.
The Stirring’s Lead Pastor, Nate Edwardson- “We’re not a sister church to Bethel. We actually have no connection or affiliation with the church other than a friendship that’s similar to our friendships with other pastors and churches across the city. Over the years, we’ve worked to build intentional relationships beyond our denomination with other churches across the city to bring courage and strength. For example, for 10 years, we hosted the Good Friday gathering with a core group of about 20 other churches, including Bethel. The Good Friday services were really all about breaking down divisions between denominations.” Is The Stirring ‘Bethel-Lite?’: Pastor Nate Edwardson Responds – https://shastascout.org/is-the-stirring-bethel-lite-lead-pastor-nate-edwardson-responds/
LoL. No one wants a tutorial on how the cults are different.
Oh all Christian denominations or nondominations are all cults? Perhaps this is the real problem with several here… Gods Holy Word.
“For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their [i]women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the [j]men, leaving the natural use of the [k]woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
“28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, [l]sexual immorality, wickedness, [m]covetousness, [n]maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 [o]undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, [p]unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”

Posting Holy Scripture will get you kicked off a Newscafe…. Thank you for allowing it here.
This is semantics. Erin’s pastor is part of Moral Revolution and thereby Bethel. Hey, it’s a free so you can worship wherever you want, just own up to it. Republicans chose Trump over xyz, so now dems can hold their collective noses and choose Erin over Maga Kev… just don’t pretend she isnt brainwashed… she’s just beholden to an extra conman or two (pssssst…. Evangelicals are overwhelmingly Maga).
NC: I think you’re pointing out the importance of not simply referencing “Bethel” or “MAGA” as reasons for supporting or not supporting local politicians. For one, those labels mean different things to different people. For another, not everyone who attends Bethel or supports Donald Trump has similar governance approaches to others in the same group. In general humans seem to love to find ways to label and group people in order to either qualify or disqualify them. It’s more difficult, but also much wiser, to judge people as individuals based not only on their statements and affiliations but on their actions, particularly how they lead.
I agree your approach is “wise.” However, it would un-wise to rush to a cheap thrill revenge–to replace a simple minded, albeit flamboyant, MAGA dude (Kevin) with something more subtle, nefarious, and much longer lasting– an intelligent, well-organized religious voting bloc. Bethel and their satellites are not a substitute for a university. They dont create culture, they’re a ridiculous cult… and unfortunately theyll be around long after the MAGA movement.
Bang on! Very well said.
Erin has proven her affiliation with Bethel positions by many of her decisions as a Redding City Council member. She has the record and now must wear it.
Anita: sources?
So someone else step up. If not it’s Erin over Crye. No doubt, no question.
Her narrow loss makes Erin the obvious replacement, let’s just be honest about the candidate’s background. Jesus Barbie off the bench.
Since when is it a requirement for public office that a candidate have no religious affiliation?
Yes, Erin. We need another adult in the room to counter the chaos of the last few years. So appreciative that you’re stepping up to the plate.
Thank you for not allowing the Capt of Chaos to have another term unchecked and unaccountable for his actions. Dept heads (even the hand picked Stooges and Sycophants), overworked line staff workers, and vendors are terrified of the oppression, manipulation and long arm of Kevin Crye.
Erin, you give a lot of hope to people in our county. Your opponent deals in cronyism partisanship and ideology without accountability or responsibility whilst you will prioritize experience, qualifications and the best interest of the people. How nice it would be to not have chaos, disorder, rudeness, incivility, disenfranchisement and suppression of free speech at every meeting.
Best wishes and prayers for you and for a Restoration of sanity, respect, financial accountability, and order in 2026 for Shasta County!
