Garman withdraws from Shasta’s District 5 race, endorses Gallagher

Former Shasta supervisor Tim Garman has pulled out of the race for District 5, a seat currently held by Shasta County Board Chair Chris Kelstrom. Garman has endorsed Mike Gallagher, a current Anderson City Council member.

Citing commitments to his church, business and various community service organizations, former Shasta supervisor Tim Garman has withdrawn from his race for District 5 supervisor.

He’s endorsing Mike Gallagher, who currently sits on the council for the city of Anderson. Shasta County Board Chair Chris Kelstrom has also announced a campaign to maintain his seat in District 5.

Garman said in a press release yesterday that the decision to withdraw from the race was difficult for him but made based on the demands of his current responsibilities.

“My heart is to serve the people,” he said in the release. “However, being the pastor of a growing church — Happy Valley Community Church — along with running a business and serving on several community boards requires significant time and attention. I believe District 5 deserves a supervisor who can fully devote the time needed to respond to every call and email.”

His decision comes just weeks after Gallagher announced his intention to run for the role. Garman used his announcement to endorse Gallagher, though only in broad terms.

“District 5 needs someone who can give the role their full attention, and I believe Mike Gallagher is ready to do that. While I’m stepping back from the race, I’ll be supporting Mike and wish him the best as he moves forward.”

Garman’s decision narrows the race for District 5, making it more likely that either Kelstrom or Gallagher could win the majority vote needed to secure the seat during the June primary.

  1. Garman’s been so wishy-washy. Pretending to be conservative before being on the board, then turning left when on the board, and now back to seeming conservative. Maybe, maybe not.

  2. Tim Garman traded his vote for the gun range to get Patrick Jones to vote for a 58% supervisor salary increase. This was done even though county employees only got a 2% raise. Typical dirty politician.

    • Thank you for paying attention. Ive been saying this for 2 years and it feels like no one remembers. Sometimes i feel completely alone. Hello… is it me youre looking for?

  3. According to polling from Rasmussen Reports, ahead of the 2024 presidential election, 62 percent of likely voters were “concerned that cheating will affect the outcome of the 2024 election.”

This skepticism crosses party lines and has persisted over the years. The pattern is clear: whichever party loses a presidential election claims the winning party cheated.

  4. Youre not paying attention ith impartiality. Tim was a joke. Revisit the ANC coverage of his vote for Jones gun range in exchange for a pay raise. RV, who covered every second of the case stated “Garman is spineless and his fake gun noise test yet more evidence of his lack of critical thinking skills.” Adios Tim! Go be a pastor.

  5. When this guy was a supervisor, he was rude and unprofessional to county staff. I say we dodged a bullet.

  6. Tim is kind, safe and sane; it would have been great to see him back on the board. He was treated like dirt by MAGA and their local leader, Crye, wannabe trump.

I’m hoping for the best for Tim and his family.

Thank you for your service Sir.

    • Ridiculous comment. See above.

  7. Do you know how awful you have to be to have me rooting for Kelstrom? You have to be as awful as Mike Gallagher.

    • dumb or dumber.

  8. Mr. Garman was elected to the Board during difficult times. I disagreed with some of his earlier votes. However, he recognized that the County was heading to disaster and he changed his voting pattern. He served as an honest and responsible Supervisor, and his decision today reflects that.

    • Tim was a horrible supervisor. He was a spineless jellyfish who betrayed Mary regularly. Im very happy he is gone.
