Shasta HHSA will close its California Street eligibility services office
The office has been used by those seeking eligibility for CalFresh, CalWORKS and Medi-Cal. HHSA said the closure is due to a move, but did not announce when or where an eligibility office will reopen.
Shasta County’s Office of Eligibility and Employment Training services, located at 1400 California St. in Redding, will close permanently Wednesday, Sept. 23.
The office is used mostly by community members seeking to determine their eligibility for a variety of state-mandated programs that serve low-income individuals, Shasta County’s Health and Human Service’s Agency said by press release today. Those programs include CalFresh, which provides monthly money for groceries, CalWORKS, which provides job training and financial assistance to families with children, and Medi-Cal.
The closure is due to a planned relocation, the agency said. But so far HHSA has not provided a date when an office providing the same designated services will open, or a location where they’ll be provided. This is the third Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency location serving economic mobility clients to close in recent years, the agency confirmed today.
The designated phone number for those seeking help with eligibility services will also be turned off after Wednesday when the office closes, HHSA said, noting that clients seeking eligibility can still get help by calling HHSA’s Customer Service Center line at (877) 652-0731 or by going online at BenefitsCal.com.
Amidst the office move, HHSA said it will continue to serve eligibility clients at other agency offices Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Those sites are listed below.
