The Redding Chamber of Commerce is hosting a business-focused candidate forum next Monday for those running for the Shasta County Board of Supervisors.

The chamber’s intention with this forum is to provide the public, the business community and chamber members with information about where candidates stand on issues involving economic development, fiscal stewardship, public safety and the overall business climate in Redding.

Candidates will be interviewed by a panel of the chamber’s board members, Government Affairs Committee members and local leaders, where they will respond in real time to questions they haven’t seen in advance, according to a press release from the chamber. The event won’t be livestreamed, but a recording will be available after the forum.

The chamber is also releasing a written candidate guide that features responses provided by candidates on business-related issues.

“The Chamber’s role is to serve as a convener of leaders and a resource for the business community,” said chamber President and CEO Todd Jones in the release. “Our goal is to provide clear, reliable information that helps our members better understand where candidates stand on issues that impact their ability to do business.”

The chamber used to endorse and donate to business-friendly political candidates through a Political Action Committee, but it was dissolved in 2022 due to increased political tensions.

The forum is on April 27 at the Sheraton Redding Hotel at the Sundial Bridge. The District 5 portion will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m., and District 1 is from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
