Redding City Council race still too close to call after new vote totals

A small lead has widened between Mark Mezzano, who’s in third place, and Christina Properi, who’s in fourth. But the difference in votes is still minimal compared to the number of ballots left to count.

New results from the Shasta County Elections Office show vote totals inching up. But results remain inconclusive for most races with tens of thousands of ballots left to count.

For three seats on the Redding City Council, Russ Wenham and Tenessa Audette continue to hold strong leads. Mark Mezzano’s lead over Christina Prosperi has widened, but only about 700 votes separate the two with many thousands more to count.

In the City of Shasta Lake, Justin Jones and Pamelyn Morgan continue to maintain their strong leads for the two positions open on the council this fall. And in Anderson, Stan Neutze continues to hold his lead with Lexus Alexander in second, although she only has a lead of about 200 votes over Amarjit Singh.

About 1,000 votes separate Mike Gallagher, who holds the lead for Shasta County’s District 5 seat, from Chris Kelstrom.

For the Shasta County Office of Education Board, two seats will be filled in Area 2. Bruce Ross and Michele Tyson maintain their leads, with Nancy Walker only about a hundred votes behind. In Area 2 where two more seats will be filled, incumbents Arthur Gorman and Teresa Roberts are still ahead.

Measures E and F continue to succeed, while Measure C is still failing.

A preliminary estimate of the number of ballots still remaining to be counted in Shasta was released to the state today, although no accompany press release was provided to the Shasta public. About 35,000 ballots have been processed so far, the Shasta elections office said, and another nearly 29,000 remain. That would mean about 64,000 Shasta residents cast ballots in the election, a number that’s roughly 10,000 less than Shasta Scout’s analysis indicates is likely.
