Last night, the Redding City Council appointed Robert Schreeder as interim chief of the Redding Police Department. He was selected by the city’s late manager, and is scheduled to start Aug. 3.
The Redding City Council approved the use of $107,000 from the general fund last night to pay for maintenance and operational costs for the entertainment venue. The auditorium will become Redding’s responsibility when Advance Redding’s lease ends on July 31.
Businesses are being advised to open early and close late, increase staff, alter restaurant menus and stay stocked on supplies during the race week for the Ironman 70.3 Northern California.
Advance Redding is transferring management of the entertainment venue back to the city. Responsibilities, including finding a new manager and paying maintenance costs, will come back under Redding’s purview amid financial strains and leadership turnover.
The death occurred Sunday, according to a press release shared by the city. The Redding council is expected to appoint an interim manager this week.
Business owner and former Caltrans employee Christina Prosperi and incumbent council member Jack Munns have filed for candidacy for the November election, along with planning commissioner and engineer Russ Wenham. Council member Tenessa Audette said she’d also be running for reelection.

In an announcement today, the city said three police captains will rotate through chief responsibilities this summer until an interim chief takes over in August. The mayor said a new police chief may start in September or October.
Chief Brian Barner will finish his 34-year career with the Redding Police Department today. The city has initiated a process to recruit the next police chief, City Manager William Tarbox said, with interviews likely starting in July.
